I'm spending my time searching for the best Medium Format film camera. RUclips has many videos with sample images. Many of them just let me down with image quality justifying the move. Your work is stunning and you revive my hope to justify my move.

Lightmeter probably just needs a new battery...

I think a few things could be done here to make these images a lot closer. 1) Grade the digital file to match the film stock - it's not much work but it's pretty easy to color match and set the white and block point to match the film scans. I see much higher saturation and darker blacks in the digital shots. Overall it's cooler white balance for sure. Warm it up a touch, and lift the black slightly and the images will look close with a touch of grain added. 2) The Depth of Field on the film camera is narrower. You can see this in a couple of shots and this helps to create that softness. I'd try to match the DoF and use a manual focus lens on the 50r and again this will make them look similar. 3) Try a very weak mist filter. This can help take the very slight digital edge off and mimic some of the tonal qualities/roll off/halation of film. Matching the lens and slapping a filter on is pretty easy and will get you 90% of the way there but to really come close to matching film you need to color grade it. It is kind of worth that effort when you consider you can get a very similar look and shoot infinite shots vs the economics of film. But yea... I still shoot film as well so :D

When are Fuji going to give us a digital version?

Good video! I am testing this camera and 3 other similar cameras with a motordrive. A Vivitar CV40, Kodak Cameo and Canon Snappy Q. All were acquired as new or open box. Results will be posted on 35mmc.

I worked at Kodak Park 40 years and never saw the film manufacturing side - ever! I worked B6, B35 (summers while in college) and in 1980, moved to 65/69 complex. Ended up in Imaging Science Division doing Optical metrology work....an amazingly fun field to work! By the way the pool didn't go to waist. It used to hang and put together the huge Kodak Colorama pictures displayed in Times Square I believe. I was close friends with the guy who ran "7-Machine" Paul Spindler.....great days! Kodak, for me, was an amazing place to work. Great people, decent pay, a LOT of science and R&D. What a blessing!

"Why shoot kentmere when you could just shoot HP5?" Because it's literally better than HP5, lower grain, pushes better, similar/same latitude, AND cheaper. Why are you rating things you've only shot once and don't even remember lol? Ridiculous. K400 basically makes HP5 obsolete in my opinion to anyone actually critically paying attention and looking at both side by side.

But you only have a 1/400th of a sec of fastest shutter speed on your camera - isn't that right? Can you still manage to "turn out" the incident light outdoors? You can't do those pictures in bright sunlight, can you? If you can answer to this it would help me so much in understanding photography in general. Thank you. I ran a comparison of a D300 with AI glass against a Rollie with Velvia. It doesn't matter how many times I came back to it, the D300 spanked the Rollei.

I feel like this channel was way ahead of its time. Still return ever so often to rewatch these vids.

which film did you use for shooting?

6:00 Don't you risk getting red-eye in the photo with the flash being so close to the lens? Or do you do pre-flash to close the pupil beforehand? Loved the video, it really made me want to book a studio session with my mamiya 645!

Previous generations tend to fix things, nowadays it’s easier to find new ones rather than fix. The same applied to relationships
